Cagayan Hit by Earthquake with 6.0 Magnitude

EARTHQUAKE – The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) recorded a 6.0 magnitude quake in Cagayan, July 1, 2022.

Most of the time, quakes hit with no prior signs. Recently, several places in and out of the Philippines were shaken by quakes of different magnitudes.

One of the strong quakes recorded by Phivolcs is the 7.1 magnitude quake in Davao Oriental. There were expected aftershocks due to the said quake and a tsunami advisory was released.

Previously, in April 22, Phivolcs recorded a quake in a part of Zambales. It had a magnitude of 6.1. Strong shaking was felt leaving people fearing about the so-called “Big One“. But the agency advises the people to wait for factual information and not to panic.

Recently, a quake hit a part of Cagayan, July 1, 2022. At 02:40 a.m., Calayan was hit by an earthquake with a magnitude of 6.0.

According to Phivolcs, the quake that hit a part of Iloilo was located at 19.02°North, 121.45°East – 027 km South 68° East of Dalupiri Island with a depth of origin of 027 kilometers.

Phivolcs stated in its bulletin that damages are not expected from the said quake but there may be aftershocks. As of this writing, the records state that the following intensities were felt in these areas and as well as instrumental intensities logged:

  • Intensity V
    • Aparri and Calayan, Cagayan
    • Flora, Apayao
  • Intensity IV
    • Penablanca and Tuguegarao City, Cagayan
  • Intensity III
    • Vigan City and Sinait, Ilocos Sur

Instrumental Intensities:

  • Intensity V
  • Intensity IV
    • Laoag City and Pasuquin, Ilocos Norte
    • Gonzaga and Penablanca, Cagayan
  • Intensity III
    • Vigan City and Sinait, Ilocos Sur
    • Ilagan, Isabela
  • Intensity II
  • Intensity I
    • Baler, Aurora
    • Santiago City, Isabela
    • Dagupan City, Pangasinan
