According to reports in Thailand, the all-new 2023 Toyota Vios is set to launch in the third quarter of this year. So if you’re after this subcompact sedan, you might want to wait for the completely new model as there are vital improvements.
Thai website headlightmag has already announced the next-generation Vios, slated for a launch between July to September of this year. One of the biggest changes is the shift from its current platform to Daihatsu’s newest platform called the Daihatsu New Global Architecture (DNGA).
The new platform will give Toyota’s subcompact sedan an increase in rigidity for enhanced handling and safety. It also weighs less than the current platform which translates to a better power-to-weight ratio.
This new platform, with code name D921, is the same platform being used by Toyota models such as the Raize, Avanza, and Veloz. Meanwhile, the hybrid powertrain available in Toyota models such as Camry, Altis, Corolla Cross, and RAV4 will also be available in the 2023 Toyota Vios according to the said report. As for the internal combustion engines, expect to see the same 1NR-FE and 2NR-FE engines present in the current model.
The report also mentioned that the design inspiration for the all-new model was taken from the Daihatsu DN F-Sedan, a car that launched in 2017 at the Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show.
