ELEMENTS OF COMMUNICATION – These are the essential and key elements of communication for successful communication.
Harappa defined communication as “the way we exchange our thoughts, ideas, and points of view with others”. And to master effective communication, one must understand first the essential components and elements of the communication process.
Here are the key elements:
This refers to the person who is speaking or giving the speech. Apart from giving information, one can also send a message through his or her tone of voice, body language, and choice of clothing.
McLean (2005) said, “The message is the stimulus or meaning produced by the source for the receiver or audience.” But in a speech, the message isn’t just about the meaning, but it should also come with good grammar and organization. The tone of voice, your body language, and your appearance also matter.
This refers to the way how the message is being conveyed. You can communicate through channels such as face-to-face conversations, speeches, telephone conversations, and others.
The receiver is the one that is analyzing and interpreting the message from the source.
This is the message that the receiver has intentionally or unintentionally given to the source after analyzing and interpreting the message received.
This is the physical and psychological environment where communication is taking place. And the environment can impact your speech and it plays an essential role in delivering the message.
The context is about the expectation of the people from each other or the factors involved in a communication process.
This is the noise that interferes with the process. This can be anything that blocks or changes the real meaning of a message.
