Quezon Mayor Joy Belmonte’s Father Died as per ‘Breaking News’ Item
MAYOR JOY BELMONTE’S FATHER – The Quezon City Mayor broke her silence on the rumors that her father, former House Speaker Sonny Belmonte, died.
Currently, there is an ongoing fight against fake news that spreads on social media like wildfire. A lot of these false reports have victimized many people most especially those who do not double check the legitimacy of what they are reading on online platforms.
Recently, a ‘breaking news’ item claiming that Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte‘s father, former House Speaker Sonny Belmonte, died. He is also a former mayor of Quezon City who served from 2001 to 2010.
The said breaking news item shocked a lot of people. Some individuals questioned if it is really true since there was no direct announcement from the Belmonte family prior to the reports that Mayor Joy Belmonte’s father died.

Recently, Mayor Joy Belmonte stepped in to address the said ‘breaking news’ item. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, the Quezon City Mayor denied the reports and stressed that former House Speaker Sonny Belmonte is “alive, well, and in good spirits” by God’s grace.
Mayor Belmonte expressed her gratitude to everyone who reached out to them and informed them about the rumor regarding her father. She also thank the ones who verified the reports and assured the public that her father is “perfectly healthy”.
The Quezon City Mayor compared the said fake news with the other false reports and said that she can only speculate about their roots and why “deceptive artcards were posted at approximately the same time”. She expressed her request to advocates of truth to stop sharing the said news and, if possible, to correct it once they encounter it on online platforms.
