Leni-Kiko Team Using Church Pulpit for Campaign Criticized by Netizens

Several netizens have slammed the team of Leni Robredo and Kiko Pangilinan (Leni-Kiko) for using church pulpit for their campaign.

A netizen on Facebook, air his disappointed to the tandem of VP Leni and Kiko the On the usage of the compound in the pulpit of the church. It will be noted that several images of Robredo and Pangilinan conversing at the Cathedral-Shrine and Parish of the Good Shepherd in Fairview, Quezon City, which surfaced on social media, sparked controversy.

Johnny Sniper Coquilla addressed the importance of the church pulpit in a Facebook post, stating that it should not be utilized for non-essential matters outside of the Catholic religion. According to him, the pulpit is not the place for philosophy, secular thought, argument, business, or any other non-biblical event.

Coquilla expressed his dissatisfaction since it appears that the church and the pulpit, which should only be used to deliver God’s message, are being utilized for political purposes. It further said that the church and the government are separated by law.

“Yet Catholic Church used it for their political motives and benefits? Where is the dignity we hold right now? Where is the word of GOD we used to preach to the people,” said Coquilla.

The netizen also emphasized the Constitution’s Article II (Declaration of Principles), Section 6, which states that the separation of Church and State must be preserved. It makes it illegal for religious organizations to register as political parties, intervene in village elections, raise campaign funding, or force subordinates to vote.

He also brought the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines’ (CBCP) attention to the situation, asking whether they were insane enough to let the temple of God to be used. The “Conversation and Prayer for VP Leni,” according to Robredo’s team, was a private event attended by religious leaders from Metro Manila.
