PBBM eyes rice allowance for government workers

President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. is eyeing to provide rice allowance for government workers to help them cope with the rising cost of living as well as generate more demand for rice.

In a televised interview with actress Toni Gonzaga, which was aired last Tuesday, Marcos said: “It will be the government, which will buy it so it will be cheaper than the market price. Now, we don’t want the the rice producers to be out of business. On the contrary what is going to happen is there will be a higher demand because the government will be buying more [rice].”

He said the measure will ensure workers will have at least something to eat amid rising cost of living.

“They should not be spending 60, 70, or 80 percent of their income on food. That is far far too much. They will have nothing else left for anything else,” Marcos said.

Ensuring food security is currently one of the top agend of the government under the Marcos administration.
