World Health Says Monkeypox Cases May Increase

World Health Organization Speaks on Possible Rise of Monkeypox Cases

World Health Organization (WHO) warned countries across the globe that monkeypox cases have a chance of increasing.

Several countries across the globe have yet to fully recover from the COVID-19 pandemic. The coronavirus disease cost millions of lives globally, pulled the economies of several nations down, urged the people to live under “new normal”, closed businesses, and a lot more devastating impacts.

Meanwhile, COVID-19 cases in several nations have dropped. Amid many countries easing their protocols and quarantine measures, the World Health Organization (WHO) previously warned that countries must not be complacent as the pandemic is not over somewhere if it is not over everywhere.

Amid the ongoing fight against the threats of COVID-19, there is another health case that caught global attention – the monkeypox, a disease that was recorded in several nations across the globe.

Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, at least 20 countries have recorded cases of monkeypox. This disease is endemic in some nations in Central and West Africa thus some experts already have knowledge about this health condition.

Based on the report, in the United States, several states including Washington, California, Utah, Colorado, Massachusetts, New York, Virginia, and Florida have recorded cases of monkeypox. This disease is visible on the skin.

According to World Health Organization, there is a possibility that the cases of monkeypox will increase. Thus, WHO advises nations to strengthen their screening measures at the points of entry to fight the spread of monkeypox.

The Department of Health (DOH) in the Philippines has previously ordered the quarantine department to boost the screening efforts. Based on the report, there are no direct flights now from countries wherein the monkeypox is endemic to the Philippines.
